Veterans Service Agency AnnouncementsThe Veterans Service Agency of Orleans County's primary objectives are making sure that those veterans, their dependents, widow and orphans receive the maximum benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies at all levels of government. The Director is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and as such, is authorized to present claims for further development, institute appeals from Department of Veterans Affairs' decisions and follow through to final disposition with representation at the Court of Veterans Appeals, Washington, D.C. The benefits that the Agency makes application for and represents veterans, their dependents, widows and orphans include: Compensation (service connected disabilities), Pension (non-service connected), Burial Benefits, Death Compensation, Death Pension, Federal Grave Markers, Department of Veterans Affairs Insurance Claims, annual income questionnaires, Department of Veterans Affairs Home Loan Guaranty, property tax exemption, hospitalization and domiciliary care, DVA Clinic care, replacement of lost documents (separation papers, marriage, birth, death, divorce, etc.), education and training, application for medals, employment rights and information, New York State Blind Annuity, fishing license, parks and recreation pass applications. The Director is also designated as Burial Officer and is responsible for the interment of any honorably discharged member of the Armed Forces of the United States who dies within the county and does not leave sufficient means to defray his or her funeral expenses
